Cumbria Flood Relief

Back in December 2015, a record breaking storm hit Cumbria causing mass flooding effecting 1000's of homes, power cuts, closing of schools and distruptions to rail and road services. Even with help from the local authority, resources were exhausted which left some people struggling and in urgent need for some help.

Aid Infinity needed to devise a plan to help those most in need of support, a team of volunteers from London and Birmingham were assembled. The volunteers were split into two teams to visit an elder lady whose house was completed flooded with over 5ft of week, she had been left in this state for almost two weeks without no help whatsoever. Although she was going through all of this she was still happy and cheerful, a lesson to be learnt for all of us.

We began to empty her house by starting off on the ground floor, there were quite alot of damaged goods in her property, some of these items included a TV, furniture, electric items, books and so on. Once the clearing process was complete, the cleaning process had begun with the mopping of the floors. The lady was really grateful for our help. It was also amazing to see other volunteers from other communities helping out in this crisis, this was quite recognisable by the people in Cumbria.
